General Information:

The 2019 Legal Summit is our first training event of its kind. With the market changing rapidly, it’s important to adapt, and adopt, in order to give yourself a competitive edge. As Kentucky real estate brokers, managers and owners, the Kentucky REALTOR® Institute strives to offer you the most essential and current information on industry issues and trends to help your business prosper. By attending this event, you will find answers to your top legal questions. You can connect with the best in the industry and find ways to improve your business immediately. Now is the best time to further your real estate knowledge base. The Legal Summit will specifically focus on laws in Kentucky and on a national level, with top notch industry experts, with a different twist than the traditional broker summit. This event will introduce a round table learning experience, hosted by national speaker Trista Curzydlo, on the most relevant and top ethical issues today. In addition, participants will learn about the statute changes, investigations, case studies and risk management for brokers. This event is something you will not want to miss, register today as seating is limited!

With the knowledge you expect from an attorney and the sense of humor you wish your attorney had, Trista brings a fresh perspective to teaching continuing education classes for real estate licensees. Her career as an attorney both in the courtroom and the Statehouse provides her with a strong grasp on the “why” behind difficult legal topics while her experience as Legal Counsel for a REALTORS® Association allows her to provide the “how” for risk management in a manner that everyone can grasp and enjoy.

Trista is a graduate of Washburn University and Washburn University, School of Law, where she was a member of the Washburn Law Journal. After serving as Assistant Legal Counsel to Kansas Governor Bill Graves, Trista joined the office of the District Attorney for the Eighteenth Judicial District of Kansas as an Assistant District Attorney assigned to the Consumer Fraud division. From 2004 to January of 2010, Trista was the Government Affairs Director and Legal Counsel for the Wichita Area Association of REALTORS® and the South Central Kansas MLS, in Wichita, Kansas. Trista is now the principal member of C4 Consulting, L.L.C. and is devoting her time to offering excellent educational opportunities for real estate licensees across the country.

Harry graduated with honors from the University of Louisville with a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering in 1988. He went on to graduate in the top 10% of his class at the University of Kentucky College of Law. Harry has practiced real estate law in his family firm of Borders & Borders in Louisville since 1991. The firm's focus is real estate closings, setting up small businesses, wills and estates. Harry and his firm make volunteer work a priority. Borders & Borders has closed every single closing for both Habitat for Humanity of Louisville and the Fuller Center For Housing of Louisville since both organizations have begun. In addition, Harry travels annually to Central America to build homes for families in need. Harry has taught real estate law to Realtors® throughout Kentucky for nearly 20 years. He consistently receives very high praise from his students. Harry's goal is to keep Realtors® up to date on the constant changes in the industry while making the time pass quickly with his enthusiasm and humor. You will come away from his classes with many new skills and hopefully a few laughs at the same time.

Vaughn, a lawyer with Vaughn & Smith, PLLC in Louisville, serves as KYR's legal counsel and serves as the instructor for KYR’s professional standards training. His reviews come back overwhelmingly positive with attendees saying he worked through and clarified common issues they didn’t realize were ethics violations but also violations of the law. By focusing on real estate litigation, the firm has managed to create a practice niche that had previously never been filled. Many firms have offered litigation services to clients with real estate related issues, but only Vaughn & Smith, PLLC has specifically trained its litigation attorneys for this exact purpose. The attorneys at Vaughn & Smith, PLLC constantly monitor the real estate industry as a whole, as well as any and all changes in the law that may affect it. They have intimate knowledge of commercial and residential real estate transactions and can utilize this base of knowledge when representing their client's interests.
